Some projects are quite an honor to do. Every year my husband totally geeks out at the lineup of this music festival. So designing the front page for this site made me a celebrity in my own home at the very least. The fest is an incredible mix of local talent and larger national acts in the beautifully relaxed setting of Hocking College. This Avett Brothers headline the 2014 NMF, so you should totally go. If you do, be sure to snag yourself a cabin for the weekend somewhere in the Hocking Hills.

It occurs to me as I write these, how much I enjoy working with my clients. Sarah Jubach is no exception. She is vibrant and energetic with a proactive positivity that can only lead to accomplishment. This publication walks buyers through solid advice on purchasing a log home in the Hocking Hills region. Client: Brent Hartman with O’Nail-Hartman Insurance via Eden Marketing

This logo holds insight in insurance history. Long before records were kept in electronic databases, proof of insurance was marked by an “insurance fire mark.” This iron plaque marked a building to verify, even in the event of a fire, that the building was insured. This logo was developed in a style reminiscent of these original fire marks as it represents the generational longevity of this family owned business.

Brett approached me with a concrete idea of what the Actors Link was looking for. They specifically wanted either chain links or an infinity link on a shield style logo. A few drafts led to the final layout and then the request was for shine. I’ve never wanted to dive into 3D animation for a client as much as I did for these guys. They really wanted that logo to move. Hopefully, as their business grows, they’ll be able to see their logo reflectively shine to its fullest potential, but for now, this custom illustration was the closest I could bring them. The bonus, is that it comes in multiple colors including teal, hot pink, orange, and the blue color below.

Project: Logo Redesign
I’ve seen many designers take one look at an older logo like this, and toss out the whole thing. But I love building off of a previous artist’s work and making it shine once again. Additionally, a logo is an identity, and it already has a relationship with those who utilize this organization. This logo, despite it’s age and funky photoshop effects, had some good stuff going on.
Symbolism: The hand holding a tree is brilliant. The care of humanity over the life of this tree, that’s what this organization is all about. It’s also a pretty decent illustration of a hand and a tree.
Font Selection: Classic non-serif font. Legible, simple, beautiful.
I banished the 90′s letter styling made popular by photoshop effects twenty years ago. Retraced the logo with vector art so it can be infinitely resized (exciting!). After a few adjustments by the client, here’s what we came up with:

An Athens, OH native, I never expected to be living up here on the north shore of Ohio, but I love it. Decadence, grit, and down home familiarity all wrapped up in one city that’s circled by a necklace of green. Cleveland, you are awesome.
